Nikolas still doesn't really get why Sasuke even likes him--it doesn't weigh on him heavily or anything, or interfere with their friendship, but he kind of just. DOESN'T GET IT. WHY WOULD THIS GUY BE INTERESTED IN ME? Especially since the truth post confirmed it wasn't just because of sex, which Nikolas had been a little worried about. (That's not exclusive to Sasuke either; he has a slight fear with everyone he's slept with that they're only interested in being his friend as long as he's fucking them, at least until they explicitly tell him otherwise.) But Sasuke confirmed for him that his company was important and valuable and that's still an extremely new feeling for Nikolas, the whole. Being a good friend. To anyone!

He isn't quite sure what he's doing right but he's doing something and he wants to keep doing it, because the reason why he's gotten so much better relatively quickly in Court is because he went from having next to nothing as a support network at home (he had only Winter, which was awkward and complicated, and Frest and Amalia, who were still only just beginning to tolerate him at his canon point) to having a relatively wide one here. And when he first came here he didn't super deserve how patient and nice people were with him, so now that his head has cleared some and he's moving on to being Sane Nikolas, he wants to deserve it now. Sasuke was a huge part of that because he took care of Nikolas early on in a lot of different ways even when he saw Nikolas behaving badly and not being super worthy of respect! And that sealed it, and now Nikolas wants to repay that by being whatever Sasuke needs in a friend, especially since he knows Sasuke doesn't make those easily. It's not that he feels obligated--he does feel indebted but he's well aware Sasuke wouldn't agree so he doesn't push that--it's more just that this is the kind of person he wants to be, and because Sasuke was a big part of helping him over his first hurdles and into wanting to be that kind of person, he especially wants to be it for him.

REVERSE ME NOW TOO (this is how my questions memes always go, I always just want a reverse for the first round, sigh)
